[Review] DYNO - TS Autotronic

After the LMS Track Day at Sepang International Circuit on Sunday (14 July 2013), I knew I had to get a more accurate dyno done as it would only be through an independent "reviewer" that I would be about to convince those who had not seen my engine bay in person, that IT IS A STOCK K20A.

Thiam Seng Battery Service, also known as TS Autotronic, is the place many car enthusiasts would go to for a (near-to) accurate dyno reading of their pride.

It was also the choice place that I was to bring my R for a dyno reading if not for a friend's recommendation to go to a location nearer to home.

TS Autotronic provide a radically different approach to chassis dynamometer testing: The Dynapack! - the only unique and technically sophisticated dyno available today in a market that is crowded with cookie-cutter designs. Dynapack have solved the problem of tire slippage and the inconsistencies of the tire to roller interface.

Different from roller dyno before, the Dynapack is a true load-brake dyno - just like the best engine dynos. It directly measure the work being performed, while a roller-dyno just estimate it. Since the machine have real hydraulic load brakes, it could perform tests that simple inertia-dynos are incapable of, thus giving the user unprecedented control over the vehicle with a degree of resolution and precision.

Giving Alex (the boss) the required ratios for an accurate dyno-run

Throughout the dyno process, Alex shared with me his experiences on engine building of a K-series and tuning of the various JDM cars. It was a rewarding experience to have a veteran share his vast knowledge with someone he just got to know.

When the dyno was completed, I literally did a back-flip when I saw the chart! At last, it was something worth showing off.

The chart has not only climbed at the appropriate Engine RPM, but the readings of the Hp and Nm was also well in the range of the basic modifications I have to my R. This is a true reading from a slightly "happy" dyno.
